Vision
Our preferred future, our desired state, our Vision for the National School Leaders Network is that all school principals will have the knowledge, skills, commitment, courage, and personal and professional attributes to guide, direct and support the improvement of teaching and learning and the conditions in which they occur.
Mission
Our reason for being, our purpose, our Mission for the National School Leaders Network is to build a national network that nurtures, encourages, supports and sustains school leaders in their efforts to increase student achievement. We are committed to:
- Renewing passion and hope
- Acknowledging and valuing the important role school leaders play in improving schools
- Treating network members as highly prized professionals
- Providing a sense of community and safe haven for school leaders to share successes, concerns, and factors that are fostering and inhibiting their individual leadership efforts
- Helping network members reflect on leadership practice
- Helping network members increase critical thinking and reach consensus on topics they themselves choose to collectively explore more deeply
- Increasing the capacity of school leaders to utilize an inquiry approach and research-based leadership behaviors identified as improving school achievement
- Helping network members collaboratively brainstorm, prioritize solutions and develop site-based action steps designed to improve teaching and learning and the conditions in which they occur
Values
The National School Leaders Network believes that:
- Effective school leaders are key to improving teaching and learning
- Learning is a social activity that occurs with and through others.
- Learning occurs through opportunities to collaboratively examine, reflect on and solve problems that are affecting the learning of a significant number of students.
- Problems are identified by collecting and analyzing data.
- The improvement of student learning requires a sustained focus on an explicit learning problem.
- The improvement of teaching and learning is context specific.
