Current Networks
The NSLN has many leadership development/mentoring networks in several areas of the nation that are being facilitated by highly talented school principals. The existing networks are listed below:
San Diego - North County
Facilitator: Suzanne Roy
Suzanne Roy is an Advisory Board member for The Principals' Center at Harvard and for the College of Education at California State University San Marcos. She is currently the 5-8 Principal in Rancho Santa Fe. Her prior experience as a principal in a K-5 setting includes opening a new school and leading a California Distinguished and National Blue Ribbon School.
Mid Connecticut
Facilitator: Paul Stringer
As a member of the Founding Principals Advisory Board, Paul Stringer lead a large and complex high school in the Hartford area. Mr. Stringer has been a strong force in the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) for many years.
Connecticut/Rhode Island Coastline
Facilitators: Michael Rafferty, Janice DeFrances
Mr Rafferty is a noted middle school principal and has been a leader in his state principal organizations. Ms DeFrances has led several elementary schools and is now Director of Harmony Hill in Rhode Island.
Ft. Meyers, Florida
Facilitator: Charlotte Rafferty
Ms Rafferty, an elementary school principal, also coaches and mentors principals through the NAESP PALS program
South Florida
Facilitator: Sandi Bisceglia
Sandi Bisceglia is an experienced principal of a sustained high achieving Pre K-8 school, has coached aspiring and experienced principals for the University of Illinois in Chicago Principal's Center, has led her State Principal's Association in Florida, and is a Steward for the International Network of Principal's Centers founded at Harvard.
Madison County, Indiana
Facilitators: Mary Lee Ewald, Nancy Phenis-Bourke
Mary Lee Ewald is a partner in VISION NOW which provides seminars and workshops on strategic planning, team building, trusteeship, interactive listening, collaboration, and consensus decision making. She has served as the Executive Director of the Anderson Community Schools Foundation. In 2000 Mary Lee received the Marjorie Klinck Award from the Indiana Leadership Association for her outstanding contributions to the development of leadership in the state of Indiana. She is currently Director of the Madison County CAPE (Community Alliances to Promote Education) collaboration. Dr. Nancy Phenis-Bourke is a veteran elementary school leader currently working with principal/coaches and mentors online with NAESP and as a facilitator with NSLN and five school districts. Nancy serves on a local hospital foundation board of directors, community foundation board of directors and center for disadvantage family agency board of directors.
Merrimack Valley, Massachusetts
Facilitators: Mary Jean Fawcett, Kathy Hammond
Both of these principals have had long and successful careers as educational leaders in the northeastern areas of Massachusetts.
Boston, Massachusetts
Facilitators: Pamela Seigle, Chip Wood
Ms Seigle is the Executive Director of the Northeast Center for Courage and Renewal. She has worked extensively in the field of professional development for principals and teachers throughout her career. Mr. Wood is currently principal of an elementary school in western MA. He was a founder and director of the Responsive Classroom.
Western Massachusetts
Facilitator: Beth Narvaez
Beth Narvaez, principal of Reid Middle School leads this network. She is a former board member of the Harvard Principals Center in Cambridge, MA.
Southern Maine
Facilitators: Brenda Brown, Michael Estes, Donna Brunette
Ms. Brown is a NSLN Founding Board member, and together these three school leaders work collaboratively with Southern Maine educational leaders.
Eastern Maine
Facilitators: Richard Ackerman, Cathy Lewis
Richard Ackerman and Cathy Lewis lead this network. Richard is a professor at University of Maine and the author of The Wounded Leader. He writes about the inner life of school leaders. Richard is also a Courage to Lead facilitator. Cathy Lewis has been a principal for many years in the eastern part of Maine. She mentors principals and has a strong history of turning around schools for excellence.
Western Michigan
Facilitator: Mary Puckett
Mary Puckett is a school principal in Paw, Paw Michigan where she works closely with the Van Buren Intermidiate School District to support the NSLN network and principals in her geographic area.
St. Louis, Misouri
Facilitator: Anthony Neal
Mr. Neal, a charter school principal from East St. Louis, also is a leader in working with principals in the area of cultural compentency.
Raleigh, North Carolina
Facilitators: Lynn Williams, Denise Tillary, David Ansbacher, Sherron Leplin
Two NSLN networks are co facilitated by these North Carolina principals. They work in partnership with the Triangle Leadership Academy in the greater Raleigh/Durham area.
New York, New York
Facilitator: Ada Dolch
Ms. Dolch is a leader in the Council of Supervisors and Administrators and has helped innumerable school principals turn around their schools for greater success.
Rochester, New York
Facilitator: Marlene Blocker
Marlene Blocker is a principal for a dynamic, high performing elementary school in Rochester, New York. She greatly values relationships and fosters a positive learning environment for all by visiting classrooms, knowing her children, parents, and staff, and always having a true pulse of her building.
Albany, New York
Facilitator: Rachelle Salerno
Dr. Salerno has served on the Harvard Principals Center Advisory Board, has been a member of the NSLN Founding Principals Advisory Board, and was one of the first New York principals to be awarded status as a Blue Ribbon School leader.
New York, New York
Facilitator: Judith Tarlo
Ms Tarlo is an expert in high school administration as well as collaborative school leadership. She also works with the New York Council of School Supervisors and Administrators in mentoring programs for new principals.
New York, New York
Facilitator: Jackie Foster
Ms Foster has been a noted school principal in New York City. She now works with the Council of School Supervisors and Administrators in professional development endeavors.
New York, New York
Facilitator: John Quattrochi
Mr. Quattrochi is an elementary school principal in New York and also works collaboratively with mentoring programs for NY City principals.
Buffalo, New York
Facilitator: Crystal Barton
Ms Barton is a leader in the world of high school principals. She also mentors and coaches school principals. Crystal Boling-Barton is the President of the Buffalo Council of Supervisors and Administrators, the Vice President of the New York State Federation of School Administrators and a Vice President of The American Federation of School administrators AFL/CIO.
New York, New York
Facilitator: James Phair
James Phair has been a noted elementary school principal and educator in the New York area. He has supported countless numbers of educators and mentored aspiring principals.
Ft. Worth, Texas
Facilitators: Franchesca Cain, Victorious Eugenio
These principals lead diverse schools with urban populations, and they are both participants in the Real Leaders Network, a Dallas/Ft. Worth-based cohort of environmentally focused schools.
Austin, Texas
Facilitator: Vicki Baldwin
Vicki Baldwin, a former Principal in Residence with the national Department of Education in Washington, is principal of the Garza Alternative High School in Austin.
San Antonio, Texas
Facilitators: Terri Chidgey, Cordell Jones
Two networks, supported by the Trinity University Principals Center, are faciliitated by these outstanding San Antonio principals. Both Ms Chidgey and Mr. Jones serve on the Trinity Principal Center Board and have been strong school leaders in the San Antonio area.
